Bangladesh Sericulture  Board  is  going  to implement a  new development project under the caption Implementation of sericulture Extension &development work plan. DPP of this project was submitted to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute on August'06 for approval . The DPP was examined by the internal committee of the Ministry in a meeting held on 18-10-2006 & decission has been taken to revise and  recast the DPP on some points. In  accordance  to  that  the  DPP  is  being revised & will be new format submitted to the Ministry 1st week of December'06. The brief description of the Project is depicted below :

i)       To develop and extend Sericulture and silk industry with the active participation of the Government, Private entrepreneurs and NGOs keeping consistency with the PRSP in the light of Milleniam Development Goal.

ii)       To strengthen the motivation work and to build-up a sound relationship between GO & NGO to accelerate the sericulture movement in Bangladesh.

iii)      To increase mulberry cultivation in the country and provide handsome incentive to the farmers/ people engaged in mulberry plantation, production of cocoons and silk yarn and create marketing facilities of silk product in the country.

iv)      To arrange intensive training at home and abroad for the manpower and professionals engaged in sericulture in order to develop expertise. 

v)       To create employment of the hard core poor people, specially the women and thereby reduce their poverty through the extension of sericulture.

vi)      To make  extension  and  renovation  of  chawki  rearing  centres and to raise
 healthy batch of chawki silk-worm for distribution to the farmers.

vii)        To  create women  empowerment  and  build-up  social  security  boundary
           of   the  rural  poor  through  sericulture  activities   by  creating   more
           employment and income.
