Project 1 :  Implementation of Sericulture Extension & Development Work Plan:

Implementation of Sericulture Extension & Development Work Plan(2008-2011):

3. Bangladesh Sericulture Board took the said Development project under caption above with an estimated cost of Tk. 1216.00 lakh. As tenwards the project cost and time of the project have been increased to Tk. 1250.54 lakh and July'2011 respectively. The objectives of this project are as follows:-

  1. To extend and develop the Sericulture through direct participation of Govt., Private Organizations and NGOs;.

  2. To establish sound relationship between Govt. organizations and NGOs;

  3. To suport financial help to the persons involved in Sericulture, production of cocoons and Silk yarn;

  4. To arrange wide-range training programe for the persons involved in Sericulture profession to develop their technical efficiency;

  5. To create employment facility for the women;

  6. To introduce ‘Chawki Rearing system’;

  7. To increase empowerment of the rural poventy-stricken women enhancing their income and genarating more employment facility through sericulture activities; and

  8. To create circumference of social security, etc.

Project Implementation Period

:

  1. Date of commencement: July’2008

  2. Date of completion: June’2011.

 

The project period was 2008-2010 and estimated cost was 1216.00 Tk. lakh. In the financial year 2008-09, the works amounting Tk. 294.00 lakh were done against the allocated amount of Tk. 300.00 lakh and the rest amount of Tk. 6.00 lakh was deposited to the Govt. Treasury In the financial year 2009-10 upto January 10, Tk. 450.00 lakh was released against the ADP allocation of Tk. 900.00 lakh and upto this time Tk. 349.33 lakh was spent against the various activities of the project. Since the inception of the project upto April, 11 cumulative expenditure is Tk.1076.42 lakh and physical & financial achievement of the project is 86.07%. By this time due to increase of prices of various materials and due to less amount of release of fund in the first year of the project it was felt to be revised.In this regard a meeting of DPEC held on 02/02/10. In this meeting project cost and time of the project have been revised and increased to Tk. 1250.54 lakh and June’2011 respectively.
 

The Achievement in the main components of this project are as follows (from July/08 to June/11):

a)  Production of mulberry saplings- 15.00 lakh Nos.

b)  Production & distribution of mulberry saplings- 15.00 lakh nos.

c)  Production of Disease-Free-Layings- 9.69 lakh Nos.

d)  Production of Cocoons-3.70 lakh Kgs.

e)  Production of silk yarn 2730 Kgs.

f)  Improved chaki polu in being distributed

g)  Establishment of exhibition plots of mulberry cultivation has been completed, as per plan

h)  Impart training to the seri-farmers -1520 persons.

i )  Employment gerenation is being increased among the poor section of the socity through sericulture profession.

Objectives of the Project
(Please specify)

  1. To extend the sericulture activities in the new prospective areas of the three hill districts in a compact form with the help of NGO' keeping the existing extension areas intact.

  2. To establish mulberry demonstration plot-cum chawki rearing centres in the Sericulture extension areas with a view to involve the people in sericulture occupation through motivation.

  3. To create employment of the poor tribal and non-tribal people of the hill districts and to reduce their poverty through extension of sericulture,

  4. To gear up the socio-economic condition of the hard-core poor people through enhancing the women participation in the field.

  5. To impart training on rearing of silk worm, cocoon production and reeling of silk yarn to the people willing to take up sericulture as a subsidiary occupation.

  6. To reduce depending tendency of the people on Government financial help and to make them self sufficient through the sericulture activities.

(a) Production and distribution of mulberry saplings- 3.50 lakh Nos.
b) Impart training on mulberry cultivation and rearing of silk-worms -2200 persons.
c) Dala, Chandraki, Ghora and Yarn-net have been distributed among the sericulture farmers. As per their requirments.
d) Plantation support on mulberry plants has been done according to the allocation.
e) Production of silk yarn -119.75 Kgs
f ) Financial support to sericulture farmers on construction of "Polu Ghar"- 45 nos.
g) Purchase and Reeling of Cocoons - 2810 Kgs.

A project under the caption ‘Extension and Development of Sericulture in public and private sector in Bangladesh (2009-2014)’ is going on. Estimated cost of this project is Tk.3000.00 lakh.It is being implemented with joint collaboration of 3 nos.public and private organizations.

 

The objectives of the above project are as follows:-

(a) To create employment facility of 50 thousand people:
(b) To produce 45 thousand kgs. seed cocoons;
(c) To take lease 140 bighas land;
(d) To establish 5 Nos. ‘Chawki Rearing centres’;
(e) To establish 23 Nos-‘Reshom polly’(Sericulture village);
(f) Production and supply of 15.00 lakh Nos, mulberry saplings/cuttings and 31.15 lakh Nos. Disease Free Layings;
(g) To impart training in the country on various Segment of Sericulture to 3640 persons involved in various activities of Sericulture;
(h) To arrange foreign training and study Tour for 39 Nos. Junior/Senior Executive officers;
(i) To provide Boshnies/Sericulture Farmers with grant;
(j) To produce cocoons;
k) To execute costruction works and conduct other allied activities;
(l) Acquisition of land etc.

The Achievement in the main components of this project are as follows (from July/09 to April/11):

a)  Production and distribution of mulberry saplings- 4.00 lakh Nos.

b)  Production and distribution of Disease-Free-Layings- 4.49 lakh Nos.

c)  Production of Cocoons-1.10 lakh Kgs.

d)  Production of silk yarn- 1350.700 Kgs.

e)  Improved Chaki polu distribution is being done as per requirment of the Rearers.

f)  Establishment of "Chaki Rearing centres" and "Resom polly" have been completed as per plan.

g)  Impart training to the seri-farmers -1456 persons.
