Bangladesh Sericulture Board is responsible for overall expansion and development of silk sector in the country.

The major functions of the Board :

         i)  To plan and develop sericulture & silk industry.

        ii)   To devise means for improved methods of mulberry cultivation, castor
 cultivation & other related plants.

        iii)   To rear,  develop  and  distribute  healthy silk worm  seeds or disease
  free laying (DFLs); to the target people.

        iv)  To reel silkworm cocoons and to improve the quality  and  production
  of raw silk & Silk product.

        v)   To  provide  technical  advice  to  the  persons  engaged  in   Charka
  reeling and filature.

       vi)   To collect and collate statistic's on sericulture and sericulture industry.

      vii)    To provide arrangements of credit facilities for Seri culturist
 

     viii)   To make arrangements of supply of necessary raw materials including
 dyes, Chemicals, spares and accessories as required  for  sericulture &
 silk industry to silk reelers, weavers, and printers at fair price.

      ix)  To make arrangements for marketing of  sericulture  and  silk  products
and to make publicity for their popularisation both at home  &  abroad.

      x)  To render promotional and extension facilities for standardisation of silk products for export and to provide training facilities to silk rearers, reelers, spinners, weavers and printers.

      xi)   To prepare, implement and operate common facilities  schemes for the
 persons engaged in sericulture and sericulture industry.

    xii)   To do such acts and things as  may  be  necessary or  convenient  to be
done in connection with or incidental of conducive to, the performance of the aforesaid functions.
