Achievement of the Board ( Up to December, 2006):

 

     Since inception of the Board it implemented 15 Development Projects. From those development Projects Bangladesh Sericulture Board has made the following achievements :

01.  Sericulture extension activities  extended/ expanded from 42 Upazilla to
  167 Upazilla of the country.

02.  People involved in sericulture are increased  from  35,000  to 6.0 lakhs.

03.  Involved  35 NGO's of  the  country in silk sector ,  by  giving  them all
  sorts of co-operation & training facilities  for the  development of  rural
  economy of the women folk.

04.  35 small  &  large - scale  silk factories  in   private   sector  have   been
  established  in   the country  through  direct &  indirect help from BSB.

05.  Scientific technologies in  the  field  of  mulberry cultivation, silk  worm
  rearing,  disease  control,  reeling, spinning  &  finishing  sector  of   the
  industry   were   developed  and   disseminated   in  the  field   through
  extension activities of BSB.

06.  Provided  training  &  supplied  Charka  to  the  poor  women  for  the
  production of spun silk from Jhut, Topa & pierced cocoons. At present
  nearly 5000 Charkas are active in production in sericulture prone areas.

07.  By investing 1427.90 Million  Taka  of  development  Fund  through  
  14 development  projects  in  silk sector,  nearly 11,000 silk cocoons
  were produced   which  value  added  nearly  2221.53  Million  Taka 
  in the country.

08.  Nearly 233.64 lakhs of Mulberry saplings were produced &  distributed
  among the farmers (Up to Sept.'06).

09.  Nearly  587.92  lakhs  of  Disease  Free  Laying  (DFLs.)  were           distribute among the silk worm rearers (Up to Sept.'06).

10.  700  mt. of raw silk  were  produced  in  the  country  by  which 
  108 lakh meters of silk fabrics were produced (Up to June '06).

11.  14968 persons were given training  on rearing of silkworms,  reeling  of
  cocoons during the period.

12.  Flood affected 1959 silkworm rearers and 275 weavers were given loan
  from flood rehabilitation programme for their rehabilitation.

13.  Employment generated 6.00 lakhs in silk sector.

14.  33  improved  mulberry  varieties  and  30  high  yielding silkworm  
  races were evolved through Research.

15.   Leaf productivity of mulberry increased from 12 mt. to 35 mt./ hector.

16.  Silk  cocoon  productivity  of  silkworm  egg  (DFL's)  increased  from
  20 kg/100 DFL's to 35 kg/100 DFL's in the field level and from 25 kg/
  100 DFL's to 50 kg/ 100 DFL's in laboratory level.
