Sericulture extension activities
extended/ expanded from 42 Upazilla to 167 Upazilla of the country.
People involved in sericulture
are increased from 35,000 to 6.0 lakhs.

the country in silk sector, by giving
them all sorts of co-operation & training
facilities for the development of
rural economy of the women folk.

72 small & large - scale silk factories
in private sector have been established in the country
through direct & indirect help from BSB.

Scientific technologies in the field
of mulberry cultivation, silk worm
rearing, disease control, reeling,
spinning & finishing sector of
the industry were
developed and disseminated
in the field through extension activities of BSB.
Provided training &
supplied
Charka to the poor women
for the production of spun silk from
Jhut,
Topa & pierced cocoons. At present
nearly 5000 Charkas are active in production in
sericulture prone areas.
117.258 lakh kgs. cocoons were produced
which value added nearly .
Nearly 241.44 lakhs of Mulberry
saplings were produced & distributed
among the farmers (Up to June.'2009).
Nearly 597.687 lakhs
of Disease Free Laying (DFLs.)
were distribute among the silk worm rearers (Up to Dec.'09).

6.9389 lakh kgs. of silk yarn were
produced in the country produced (Up to
Dec. '09).

19296 persons were given training on
rearing of silkworms, reeling of cocoons during the
period.

Flood affected 1959 silkworm rearers and 275 weavers
were given loan from flood rehabilitation programme for their rehabilitation.

Employment generated 6.00 lakhs in
silk sector.

33 improved mulberry varieties
and 30 high yielding silkworm races were evolved through
Research.

Leaf productivity of mulberry increased from 12 mt. to
35 mt./ hector.

Silk cocoon productivity of
silkworm egg (DFL's) increased
from 20 kg/100 DFL's to 35 kg/100 DFL's in
the field level and from 25 kg/ 100 DFL's to
50 kg/ 100 DFL's in laboratory level.
